Now that we know what the New Testament Church is to be doing, just how does a person get this power?

  •  1.You must have accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior.

You must believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord (Son of God, born of a virgin, died on a cross for your sins, raised from the dead, and sits on the right hand of the Father), ask forgiveness for your sins, and ask Him to come into your heart and be your Lord and savior.

  • 2. You must get into the Word.

DAILY read the Bible. Ask what you need to know today. Trust Him to lead and guide you into His knowledge and wisdom. Romans 2:16 says that it is by the reading of the Word that we obtain the mind of Christ. You have to understand what the Scriptures are talking about, though. “STUDY (not just read it. Get out your Concordance, and an Amplified Bible and Franklin Bookman to see what was meant when it was originally written! Forget what anybody else says, what did HE mean when HE wrote it?) to show thyself approved unto G-d (obviously, not everyone is! This doesn’t just automatically happen, folks!),a workman that needeth not to be ashamed (one day we will each and every one of us stand before the one that wrote The Book [THE WORD HIMSELF!] and answer for the way we interpreted and used it. Will you need excuses, or will you shine in His eyes? OUCH!) rightly dividing (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines this [Greek 3718] as “to make a straight cut or dissect correctly. That means that you know it inside and out and understand exactly what it means so that you can use it in an erect and honest manner.) the word of truth.

  • 3. There is more, free for the asking!

“If ye, then, being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13 If we are already His children, that means that we have already believed, and received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Is this telling us that there is more than that?

Yes. The Bible tells us that there is more that we can have than what we receive when we first accept Christ, and it is ours for the asking. In Acts 19:2 it says that Paul came to Ephesus and ran into some disciples there. “He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (They received the initial infilling we get when we believe, but this plainly tells us that there is greater for us to receive, if we want it.) And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” Verse 3 says, “And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.” V.4, “Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which comes after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.(“He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.” Matthew 3:11) As they were already disciples, this was, apparently, some time after they had accepted Jesus as their savior.

THIS is where the power comes from. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, sayeth the LORD of Hosts.” Zechariah 4:6 It is through the power of this Holy Spirit in us that His power and might are shown!

How do you get it? Again, “…how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13. It is common practice to receive by the laying on of hands by someone who has already received, but there is also another way. Matthew 11:22 says, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Either way, it is a freely given gift that only has to be asked for!

  • 4. Fast.
    Fasting accomplishes two things:

    •  Offers a sacrifice to G-d There are still times when it is a situation where we say “I am willing to do this. My request is so much more important than food.” and G-d may say, “If you are willing to suffer for it, then I certainly will …” But also,
    •  Fasting gets the carnal mind pushed down so that the spirit can be in control.

Romans 8:6 tells us that to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. This makes that still small voice in which the Lord speaks to us easer to discern. This also makes it easier for us to obey, with the fleshly desires crucified. The Bible clearly states, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they, are the sons of God.” THAT is a really scary thought! That is what He said, though! And these are the steps to be able to do it. Kenneth E. Hagin wrote an excellent book titled “How to Be Led by the Spirit of God”. My husband and I have given out about twenty copies of it to those that were seeking to know G-d more intimately.

When you ask someone what time it is, you do not have to go into a special room and go through any rituals to get an answer. You ask, and you hear the person speak. You also understand what they say. The same should be true with the Holy Spirit. We should be so sensitive to His voice that we are able to hear him when he speaks to us, wherever we are, and no matter what we are doing. This is what it means to be led by His Spirit!

During a fast is a good time to sanctify oneself. If you want the greatest spiritual power you must truly have given Him total control over your life and everything IN your life; family, money, job, friends, clothes, movies you watch, books you read, food you eat (OUCH!), places you go, EVERYTHING. Here is a test: is there anything in your life that you could not let go , of if He says it must go, even if your friends get to keep it, or watch it, or go there, or do it? If you really want to know if there is, ask. He will show you!

The result of this type of fasting is revival. Not evangelism, where we have a guest speaker come in and a bunch of people get saved, but you, individually, are re (again) vived (made alive). Which is a really good thing to have happen. When groups of individuals are revived, whole cities are changed. And it starts with “I will”.

  •  5. Pray.

Prayer is a dialogue, not a monologue. If you are not hearing Him talk back to you, you are not doing enough of something I have listed.

This is the only way to know the will of G-d for you. The bible does not tell us which job to take, or who to marry, or who to vote for. It is by the promptings and quickening of the Holy Spirit that we know what we are to do, but He also lets us know when we are doing something wrong. He is our affirmation.

  • 6. Praise and Worship.

Psalms 100 tells us we enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. We then must get into worship to enter into His presence, though. Worship is loving on Him; expressing your love for Him very intimately, as with a lover. This is when He will manifest His glorious presence so that the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healings can take place. This is also where He will literally just pour into you the knowledge, direction, wisdom that is required to accomplish His will and your goals. If you are not getting to this point, you are not getting deep enough into His presence.

  • 7. Be careful for nothing

(Don’t sweat it!) but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God, and stand believing that He will!

  • 8. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6 & 7.

If you are truly waking in the spirit, and not the flesh, you will be walking in the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy (gladness), peace , longsuffering (patience), gentleness, goodness (kindness), faith (unshakable, believing without doubt), meekness (humility, being dead to self and truly knowing that it is Christ that liveth in me), temperance (self-control).

The world is blinded to the gospel by the hand of the enemy. What are you doing to get their attention, and once you do, will they see enough of Jesus in you to win them over? You have been called. Will you pay the price to be what is required of the Church in these, the very last of days, so that He CAN shine in the world? It only happens through us! What say ye to Him?
