Do You Hear Him?

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”  John 14:26 The Bible KJV via e-sword.com

He is speaking, and He is speaking to you But do you hear Him when He speaks?  Does a father not speak to his children to direct, help, comfort, and, yes, to discipline them?  Our Heavenly Father does the same with us, as believers in His son Jesus the Christ, through His Holy Spirit, but do you hear Him?  When we start to do something wrong, we will always be quickened (that knowing or tightening we get in our gut) by the Holy Spirit.  But do you hear Him?

The Bible is my User’s Manual to my Christian Life, but it does not tell me if I should switch jobs.  It does not tell me if this is the man I should marry.  It does not tell me which car to buy.  Those answers are readily available to us, though, if we will but crucify our flesh, pray, and wait on the answer.  (See the Feb. 20 post Fasting: What is it? Who should do it? Why do it? How do I do it? for the how-to’s on denying the flesh.)

We are made up of three parts. Numerous times The Bible talks about the flesh and the soul and the spirit.  They are three separate components which together make up a man.   The flesh is comprised of our body and its five senses (taste, touch, sight, smell, and hearing) and our soul which is our mind, will, and emotion.  These are the “fleshly”,  “carnal” parts that must be denied and brought under subjection to our spirit.  Only then will we be able to hear and discern the voice, and thus the will of the Lord.

The spirit is the real us.  Every human being has a spirit. This is the part of us that will live in Heaven or Hell forever.   (It will be one or the other, and before they die, everyone makes their own choice as to which it will be!  God does not send anybody to Hell, they go because they chose not to respond when they were prompted and drawn by the Holy Spirit to accept Jesus.  Never forget that!)  The Bible also says in John 3:6, That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”  The capital “S” in Spirit denotes that this is referring to the Holy Spirit of God.  The lower case “s” denotes man’s spirit.  This scripture tells me that things of the Spirit come to me in my spirit, not my mind.  This is why it is so vital that we, as followers of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, be able to hear and recognize when He speaks to us.

How can we obey that which we can not hear?  He is talking.  Do you hear Him?
