If God Be For Me

The Happy Song is a song that we used to sing when we went to church at East Calhoun Church of God in Calhoun, Ga.  (We did the Lyndell Cooley version which is the original and is still my personal favorite, except for James A. Chant’s.  He was our music director then.)  This has been one of my favorite songs ever since, though I have not even thought about it in I don’t know how long.  I have been singing this song in my head (heart, spirit) for a few days now and I got such a revelation from it this afternoon.  You can watch Lyndell Cooley sing it here.  I have even listed the lyrics for you:

“The Happy Song

Well I could sing unending songs
Of how you saved my soul.
I could dance a thousand miles
Because of Your great love.

C’mon everybody dance
Everybody dance!

My heart is bursting Lord
To tell of all You’ve done
Of how You’ve changed my life
And wiped away the past

I want to shout it out
From every rooftop, sing!
For now I know that
God, You’re for me, not against me

I could sing unending songs
Of how you saved my soul.
I could dance a thousand miles
Because of Your great love.

My heart is bursting Lord
To tell of all You’ve done
Of how You’ve changed my life
And wiped away the past

I want to shout it out
From every rooftop sing
For now I know that
God, You’re for me, not against me

Everybody’s singin’ now
Cause we’re happy! Yeah.
Everybody’s dancin’ now
Cause we’re so happy!

If only I could see your face
See you smiling over us
And unseen angels celebrate
Hey, the joy is in this place, yeah
The joy is in this place

I could sing unending songs
Of how you saved my soul.
I could dance a thousand miles
Because of Your great love.

I could sing unending songs
Of how you saved my soul.
I could dance a thousand miles
Because of Your great love.”

[Written by Martin Smith.  This version is sung by Chris Tomlin. Lyrics found at http://www.songlyrics.com/chris-tomlin/happy-song-lyrics/]

When I was thinking/singing it this afternoon, it really struck me what it was saying when I got to “For now I know that God, You’re for me, not against me”.  What a thought!  And it is true.  He is doing everything in His extremely considerable power to see to it that I am happy.      This means that He wants me to have love, joy and peace, but for that to happen I must be healthy, successful,  have enough money, and have good relationships.  This means that I am entitled to those things.  He wants me  to have them!

Since He is the God of the universe, and He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and all the gold and silver are His, and I am joint heirs with Jesus, and if the words in this song are true, which Scriptures say in Romans 8:31 that they most certainly are, then there is nothing that I can not do or have, as long as it is not to the detriment of me, others,  or the Kingdom.  He is not against us, He is for us!  That should have every Christian shouting!  I know that it sure does make me happy!  Whoo Hoo!
