His Work Beyond the Cross II

After the cross, Jesus ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father forever making intercession for us[1], but His Earthly work wasn’t finished yet. Before He ascended, He told the eleven disciples to meet Him in Galilee. He appeared unto them and said:

“Mat 28:18. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth

Mat 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Mat 28:20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”[2]

“Mark 16:14. Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover

Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”[3]

“Confirming the word with signs following”. What does that mean? He, Jesus, said that He would be with them even unto the end of the world and Mark 16:20 says that He is working with them. What is He doing, though? He is confirming the word with signs following. In other words, when the word is spoken in faith, He sees to it that it comes to be. These are the signs and wonders that were prayed for in Acts 4:30 and are done as a witness to the saving, healing, delivering, providing power of Jesus[4]

These are the signs that Jesus Himself said would follow “them (anyone anytime, anywhere. Yes, even today. Yes, even you! He is no respector of persons.) that believe” (Mark 16:17): cast out devils; speak with new tongues (to speak with a language not naturally acquired)[5]; take up serpents (not on purpose, but if accidently bitten!); Drinking any deadly thing shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover!

But how is this possible? Jesus is sitting in Heaven on the right hand of the Father, so He can’t be here too! This is what He is doing on the Earth right now, according to John the Baptist:

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire[6].” The Holy Ghost is the power of God on the earth today. He is the one that draws us unto salvation, it is He that gives revelation (makes Scriptures real to us, and gives us the understanding[7]). It is the Holy Spirit in us that makes these signs and wonders happen.

It is time for the Church to move past the cross; never forgetting what was accomplished there, but realizing that the day of Pentecost has fully come. Was it just for the disciples? No. There were 120 men and women there that day. They all received equally

The book of Acts is called the Acts of the Apostles, but is actually the Acts of the Holy Spirit. Now, if Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever[8], this means that He is still doing the same things today that He was doing while He was physically here on earth. Today, however, He is doing it through us via the power of the Holy Spirit. If He baptized with the Holy Spirit then, according to Scriptures, He is still doing it today, with the same signs and wonders following. The Day of Pentecost (Acts 2) was just the beginning. It will end when Jesus returns.[9]

In the Bible, in the New Testament, the apostle Paul wished all had this power[10], with the evidence of speaking in tongues (not naturally acquired).

We either believe that the Bible is true or not. If we are made in the image of God, and He also did predestinate (those called according to His purpose) to be conformed to the image of his Son[11], that means that we are to act like Jesus, as if we were spiritual twins. . I can hear it now. “What in this world makes you think you can imitate Jesus?” According to these scriptures, I can. Can I save the world? Of course not! There will only ever be one Savior: Jesus. Do I cast out devils? Yep. Can I lay hands on the sick and see them healed? Again, yep! Do I do these things? You bet cha! Why does it happen? It is simple: I believe. Jesus is able to manifest Himself through me via His Holy Spirit dwelling in me because I believe that He can and will. It is simply a matter of faith. If faith without works is dead, then it looks like mine is very much alive and kickin’. Hallelujah!
