If you can’t say something nice…

Everyone that has one has heard their mother say a thousand times, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”  Seems like Mom knew what she was talking about and it was even Scriptural.

The Bible was written for the Eastern mindset.  There, they understand spiritual concepts.  Scriptures like the following one are completely understood there, and they know why it is that way.   This is one of the least talked about Scriptures here in the West.  I believe that this is because it is so extremely misunderstood.  Here is the Scripture:

James 3:10. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

First there is the word “blessing”.  Strong’s Greek Dictionary entry G2129 says it means to speak bounty or benefit, to speak good things  over someone.  We also have to look at the word “cursing”.  Strong’s Greek defines this as to speak a curse.  This does not mean to cuss someone or to use profane language, but literally to curse: “A cause of great harm or misfortune.”*  Again, this is spoken.  By Christians!  Against other Christians!!  And even against people that they love!!!  How can this be?

Have you ever heard spoken over someone with a serious illness, “They look really bad.  They won’t last long now!”?  That was a curse.  Instead of speaking healing and life and quoting healing Scriptures, the opposite is said.  Why?

I only have one explanation:  They do not believe in  all Jesus did for us.  They believe that He died on the cross to save us from our sins, but not in the blood or His stripes.  They believe the Doctor’s report over Jesus’.  This is the only explanation that I can come up with, and it just breaks my heart.  And makes me so angry.

My mother went through “a serious illness scare”.   The doctor said that she had to have surgery for it.   When we got to the hospital on the day scheduled for her surgery,  the doctor said that he was going to do one more test right before he started  just to be sure nothing had changed.  I had the utmost faith that he was going to call and tell  us that the surgery was no longer necessary, the disease was gone.  Instead, we got a call telling us that they had started the surgery.  I was furious!  I was mad at God for not doing what I knew beyond a doubt would happen.  I cried I was so mad.  My husband took me out of the room and told me that God had no choice.

You see, her church had been praying for the surgery to go well, he explained.  I was speaking against the disease. With that any people praying for the surgery….

Imagine what would happen if these churches caught on to this and actually started praying for people effectively.  The world would be beating a path to our doors.  We would not be able to keep them out!!!  And the number that would get saved because of it,   Oh      my       gosh!

But, instead…..

We, as Christians, have what the world is looking for.  Isn’t it time that they started seeing it? The choice is yours, but remember: If you don’t say something nice, others very well may pay the price!
So, what would Jesus do?
