Laps Around The Mountain aka Opportunities!

“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience?  Or does He give them the opportunity to be patient?

If they pray for courage, does God give them courage, or does He give them opportunities to be courageous?

If someone prayed for their family to be closer, you think God zaps them with warm, fuzzy feelings?  Or does He give them opportunities to love each other?”

Morgan Freeman in the movie Evan Almighty.

That is such a good way to look at it.  When God deals with us about things in our lives, He will give us opportunities to see that we can overcome them:  We do not have to eat that cookie; we do not have to smoke that cigarette; we do not have to watch that porn; we do not have to give in to the anger, lust, gluttony, whatever the temptation may be.  If we are in Christ, we are overcomers.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.   (1 John 4:4 KJV)

We do not have to give in, but we may choose to.  We may be weak in the spirit (our human spirit) and succumb to the temptation (cave in to it), but we don’t have to.

I know first hand how hard it can be to resist temptations, especially if it is something one has previously been ensnared in.  It can be H A R D !

I have also found, though, that the more crucified your flesh is, the more submitted that you are to Him, and the easier it is to resist.

Believe me, though, Saints, you will be tested (tempted) to see if you will resist.  The devil does have a job to do, and he is very, very good at it.  NEVER  underestimate your enemy.  Know your strength in God, but don’t count the enemy out yet.  His time will come, but it ain’t here yet, folks, so until it is:

James 4:5-7 KJV
(5) Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
(6) But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
(7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

He promised!
