Jesus and The Anointing

Yes, this is a re-post of an article I posted on June 3, 2011 but I felt this is what I was to do.  I hope whoever is supposed to read this does and realizes G-d’s love for them.  Be ye doers of this word, and watch the world change.

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.(Acts 10:38) He is with me, too.  Look:

The word Christ is not Jesus’ last name. It is, instead, an adjective or a word that describes a noun (a person, place, or thing). In this case, it is a word describing Jesus.

What does the word Christ say about Him, though? The word Christ comes from the Greek word Christos means The Anointed One and His Anointing. What is the anointing?

Isaiah 10:27 says “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” I have heard it described as “The burden removing, yoke destroying power of God.” A-men!

Isaiah said that Jesus would say:

(1) The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

(2) To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

(3) To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Isaiah 61:1-3

And He did:

Luke 4:16-21

(16) And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

(17) And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

(18) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

(19) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

(20) And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him,

(21) And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

People get so upset when they hear this, but it is Bible: Jesus did no miracles until the Holy Spirit came upon Him and it is the same Holy Spirit that is in me!

I really love the way that Ron Carpenter put it: “When Jesus went back up to Heaven, the anointing left one body (Jesus’) and settled on another one (The Church)”.

There is more of the Holy Spirit available to us than what one gets when one first believes. We know this because of what Paul said in Acts 19:2-6:

“He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (They were believers, so they had already received the initial infilling of the Holy Spirit) And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. (3) And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. (4) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. (5) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (6) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”

John the Baptist said of Jesus:

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:” Matthew 3:11

The empowerment of the Holy Spirit is there for the asking, free to every believer.

Jesus said, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13.

What purpose does the empowerment of the Holy Spirit serve? It is the power of God on the Earth. That is how God works through us.

17. And these signs shall follow them that believe (He did NOT say, “the apostles”, nor did He say, “those of you that are here with me now”, He said anyone, anytime that believes on the power of His Holy name. ANYONE); in my name (with my power of attorney, just as if it were me standing there doing it, but it is me doing it through you) shall they cast out devils (yep!); they shall speak with new tongues (Strong’s (Greek 1100) defines this as glossa: a language [specifically not naturally acquired] This means one given and not naturally learned, and as 1 Corinthians 13:10 tells us this will continue until Jesus returns, and as that hasn’t happened yet…) 18.They shall take up serpents (It is written in red, and that means that Jesus said, “… It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt[test, or try] the L-rd, thy G-d.” Matthew 4:7. That means we are not to pick them up just to see what will happen, but if something happens like it did to Paul on the island gathering wood!); and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (There is absolutely NO possible way to misunderstand that. It means what it says! Plain and simple. If you realize that it is not you doing it, but Him doing it through you, and that He WILL do it, then He will. He has already taken 39 lashes, or 1,573 stripes for it. Oh so many Christians that die of disease die because of a lack of faith, or they and no one around them knows the Word. Jesus just said that should not happen!)”.

It is not me that casts out devils, or heals the sick, it is God doing it through me via the power of the Holy Spirit.How do we do these things, though? We don’t. We become sensitive to His voice, we do and say what He tells us, and then He makes it happen. He is doing it. Just like a carpenter uses a hammer to get a nail into a piece of wood, I am simply the tool He uses to get the job done.

This is how we become like Jesus: by walking in the spirit (having our flesh under subjection to our spirit through fasting) and being sensitive to the Holy Spirit. It is only then that we are able to walk in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23) which is the nature of Jesus, and flow in the Gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7-12), which are the ministry of Jesus.

There is so much to be done and such a short time to do it in. We need all the help that we can get. And all the help that we need has already been made available to us: the anointing, already paid for so to us it is free, simply for the asking!
